LIST OF FRANCOPHONE COUNTRIES WITH FRENCH AS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

Francophone Africa countries are the places where French is the official language and which belong to Francophonie the official French language community. There is still a confusion with other large French speaking countries where French is not the official language in countries like Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia where for political reasons Arabic is seen as the official language.

Talking about Francophone Africa is considering only French speaking countries in Sub-Sahara Africa excluding the Maghreb states.

Francophone Africa countries are in West Africa, Central Africa and East Africa:

  • Bénin, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo,Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire), Djibouti, Guinea Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon,, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Togo.
